REFLECTION

Have you looked in the mirror lately? Me either! That person staring back in a mirror...if I look at it...doesn’t look like me. I am a teen of the 80s...yes AM...I still AM alive in the 80s. We have the best music! We have great rock and roll...love ballads...and yes some like the metal that only they can understand.
In my mind’s eye I have the dirty blond hair (yes that is the color not the cleanliness)...blue eyes with no crinkles around them...my figure can still wear the fashion of the 80s...those cute straight leg jeans that we used to “peg” (that little rolled up cuff) at the bottom and my brown doxider shoes with the twanged ties. I am young and cute. Yep! That is my look.

My friends...they have that look too. The girls either have that BIG hair or that short feathered hair with the “duck tail” in back. The guys...they have all their hair….some guys have that long messy sort of hair...some have the business in the front party in the back hair and some guys have more of a short preppy hair cut. We all talk and laugh together. We are happy and invincible. We live in our reality of the 80s.
In the 80s life was good! We would cruise the same roads on weekends. We would go to football games. The cheerleaders doing their thing. Some of us walked the track around the football field and would stop at times to cheer our guys on.
We had cliques in school...the “play people” (always the same group in our plays or musicals), the jocks, the burnouts, the preppies, the brains, and some who tried to fit in someplace. Some were in a combination of cliques.
The 80s were a time of carefree-ness...carefree thinking, carefree living, carefree!
You just happen to glance at yourself in the mirror as you pass by. Where did the gray hair come from? Or where did your hair go? You look a bit closer...laugh lines show around your eyes. At least they are laugh lines...that means you enjoy life! Your clothes...well...you dress appropriately for your age...you still want to look appealing. Your circle of friends...they are more seasoned with life experiences.
When you are alone...you rock like the best of them to your 80s music! You sing at the top of your lungs. Who cares if you go off pitch? You are singing to no one. Maybe you even do a little air band guitaring...or you take the “air” mic and you ARE the show. You sing! You dance! You are alive and carefree!
